Being actively involved in the area of research and methodology, Dr. Hajah Salmi Binti Che Meh has vast experience in handling workshops for Polytechnics and Community Colleges staff. As the former Head of Research and Innovation for quite a number of years, her experience in this field has helped her institution secure several grants, especially in the Public-Private Research Network (PPRN). Currently, she holds the position of Director of Balik Pulau Polytechnic, Penang, Malaysia.
Her career in the education sector started in 1991 as a language teacher in a secondary school in Penang after she graduated from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, with a degree in Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL). After pursuing her Master of Science (Management), she joined Seberang Perai Polytechnic in 1998 as the Head of the General Studies Department. Apart from her passion for teaching a number of programmes in polytechnics, her career progressed with various management posts in the institution, such as Head of Research and Innovation Unit, Senior Lecturer, Deputy Director (Academic Support), and also Deputy Director (Academic).
In 2006, she was awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia and was conferred her PhD in Human Resource Management. She has presented several papers at the national and international levels and was also the keynote speaker at the Piksi International Conference on Knowledge and Sciences 2014 in Bandung, Indonesia. She is actively involved as a reviewer and editorial board member in numerous publications organized by DPCCE and other higher institutions. Besides her duties, she is also involved in the Technical Advisory Committee for the Human Resource Department. She has also attended various leadership courses, including TVET: The Singapore Experience, Transformational Leadership, the Changemaker Programme for Higher Education Top Leaders (CPROHE), and many more at the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT).
